Happy 2009 everyone!

I wish an happy new year to my fellow readers and I hope everyone had a good time during the x-mas break.

This blog has been quiet for a while because honestly I haven’t worked on OCTGN… I was away from home during two weeks at christmas (was awesome) and then the beginning of 2009 was quite busy.

But the good news is that I’m picking OCTGN again! I already fixed a bunch of bugs. Maybe the two most notable ones are:

  • You no longer have to re-install your sets when you update a game definition, as long as the new game is compatible with the previous one. Currently, compatible means that the card properties are exactly identical (same number of properties, same order, and same properties names and types).
  • Shuffling in games with more than 2 players crashed.

I also introduced a new features: key information on the player tab header. So that you can check the most important piece of information at all times, without having to switch to the player tab.

Key indicators in tabs

In the above example, it could mean that I’m at 20 life with 7 cards in hand. What is displayed is totally up to the game. Side effect: because it is defined inside the o8g game module, you have to update your game definitions if you want to take advantage of this new feature.

My current plans are to code the Tokens feature and then publish an update. More about that later!

    Thanks for your hard work! Where can we get the updated game file?

  4. Maquis Says:

    It looks promising, though I would like it in simple zip file. Web-based install doesn’t work for me (why so bizzare way?)

    Solved with newest .NET

    @Xavier:
    until the update is published, having new game files wouldn’t be very useful… 😉

    @Maquis:
    yeah, the error is unfortunately very undescriptive and common. Glad you fixed it on your own.
    Why the bizzare way? Because it provides me automatic updates for free.

    OCTGN is a software to play CCG online, but it doesn’t come with any CCG installed. You need to provide it with:
    1. a game definition (.o8g)
    2. card sets for the game (.o8s)

    You install those files through the “Manage my games” button in the launcher.

    Now if you want to install a Magic module and cards, I suggest you try to google OCTGN 2 Magic.

    How do I uninstall a game ?

  10. jods Says:

    good catch!
    You can delete individual sets in the “Manage my games” window, but there’s no way to remove a game…

    I’ll have to add that in a future release. In the meantime, if you really want to get rid of a game there’s the following workaround.

    You can uninstall ALL your games by simply deleting the contents of your OCTGN data folder.

    But this means you’ll have to reinstall the games and sets that you wanted to keep.
