Poll: What’s your config
Thanks for your input in my last post (about group windows). As I thought most of you have one monitor and it’s not gonna make any difference if the window is inside or outside the main one (well if you run full-screen at least, which I suppose most of you do). So I’m going for the easiest solution: the group window is “inside” the main one. The result is quite cool and I’m gonna post about it as soon as I can (timewise).
BTW, if the “outside” option ever appears the situation may not be as bad as I wrote last time: it looks like WinXP SP3 will bring hardware acceleration to WPF layered window (which was one drawback bothering me).
Anyway, let’s focus on today’s topic. I’d like to know what computer the “average” OCTGN user runs. It will help me draw the line between “cool features” (especially visual effects) and performance.
So please take the time to leave a comment! The more answers I get, the better OCTGN will be suited to your computer.
I would like to know:
1) Your operating system: XP (SP?), Vista, Other.
2) Your CPU. How many cores (if applicable) and its speed.
3) How much physical memory do you have.
4) Your graphic card.
Thanks for answering!

1) XP SP2
2) AMD64 3000+
3) 1024 MB
4) ATI R9800 PRO 128 mb
I know that most people that I play OCTGN with have specs similar to this or better.
However, what I liked about OCTGN was that I could use it on my crappy old laptop that I have with me to watch movies when i travel. It would be great to have the option to remove most of the ‘cool stuff’.

Actually two machines:
1) Debian testing/unstable, Intel Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz), 1GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X700
2) Windows XP SP2, AMD 64 3200+, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800Pro

Well, here comes another one, better than never:
1) XP SP2
2) Intel Pentium M, 2,13 GHz
3) 2 GB RAM
4) NVIDIA Quadro FX Go1400
It’s a quite good laptop.
A friend of mine also plays OCTGN, he has a very old PC, but OCTGN 1.x runs without problems, so if it is possible to hold the requirements as near as the ones of OCTGN, he would really apreciate it. Maybe I can get some of his specs later!

AH, I’m having a slight problem.
1. Windows Vista Home Premium
2. Intel Cored 2 t7200 2.0GHz
3. 2.00 GB Ram
4. NVIDIA GeForce GO7700
Ok, now the problem is whenever I try to run the OCTGN installer, I get an error that says “Cannot continue. The application is improperly formatted. Contact the application vendor for assistance.” Followed by a long error text that I hesitate to copy and paste anywhere. Thoughts? Anyone else have this problem?
March 4, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Without any details, this looks very much like you don’t have the .NET framework version 3.5 *Service Pack 1* installed.
Blame MS for the silly versionning, the SP1 is more than a few fixes, and you really need it.
March 5, 2009 at 3:44 am
Hm, I downloaded the new 3.5 latest version, installed it, restarted, made sure I was in Internet Explorer and tried again. No profit. Could it be something else?
March 5, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Please Damien, can you post proof you have the correct version installed?
I don’t mean to be offensive, but MS really got their version numbers wrong after .NET 2.0 and it’s causing a lot of trouble.
If you’re using IE, can you go to the site and tell me what framework version it reports? http://www.smallestdotnet.com
Or can you tell me what contains the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.5\Version
Your error message really looks like you don’t have the service pack 1 installed. The site mentionned above should provide you with a download link.
Let me know how it goes.
